Last night, Major League Baseball‘s Cincinnati Reds enjoyed a funky pre-game rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner” thanks to the groovy magic of local native Freekbass and his The Bump Assembly bandmate, Sammi Garett!
The bass master and the pink songstress are out on the road promoting Freekbass’ recent release from Color Red Records, All The Way This. All The Way That, recorded with his backing band, The Bump Assembly, which includes Garett, drummer Rico Lewis (George Clinton & Parliament-Funkadelic), and keyboardist Sky White (Foxy Shazam). Fans at the Great American Ball Park got to see how one nation under a groove should sound before watching their Reds knock off the Los Angeles Angels in interleague play in a 7 to 4 victory for the home team.
This hasn’t been the best year for the Reds. They’re currently 14 games off the lead in the National League and not much time to make up the gap. Hopefully, the funkified anthem helps inspire a streak that will give the team a chance to compete for their first World Series win since 1990. Check out the video below:

Our own Rex Thomson discussed the surreal experience with Freekbass and Garrett last night after the game for the newest episode of their comic book movie-based podcast, The Backstage Supercast with Freekbass and Rex-A-Vision.
Listen to their hilarious thoughts on performing one of the most challenging songs anyone can take on in the clip below, or check out their show on Podbean, iTunes, Spotify or download it for free HERE. Enjoy!
