Funk and soul fans are invited to a festival in paradise with Funk It Up At the Fred, a four-day destination festival in St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands taking place May 19th–23rd, 2022.

The lineup for the event, produced by Jade Events, features long list of contemporary funk greats playing in various never-before-seen formations. The first all-star group on the lineup, the Funky Force Ensemble, will feature foundational funk bassist George Porter Jr. (The Meters) alongside drummer Adam Deitch, guitarist Adam “Shmeeans” Smirnoff, and trumpeter Eric “Benny” Bloom of the Grammy-nominated future-funk outfit, Lettuce. The Funky Force Ensemble will be rounded out by decorated pianist CR Gruver (New Orleans Suspects), vocalist Micah Munro, and saxophonist Skerik.

Joining them will be the Super Sonic Shorties, an outfit comprised of some of the funkiest women in the game including drummer/bandleader Nikki Glaspie (The Nth Power, Beyoncé, Dumpstaphunk), Ella Feingold (Erykah Badu, Silk Sonic), Tonya Sweets (Lizzo), Drin Elliot (The Jacksons), Marcie Chapa (Beyoncé), Katty Rodriguez (Beyoncé), and New Orleans fan-favorite Erica Falls.

Each day will be filled with poolside sets followed by full concerts featuring the all-star bands in the evenings and DJ sets running late into the night.

The event’s venue, The Fred, is the only beachfront resort in St. Croix that’s also located in town as well as the first new hotel to open on the island since 1986. Check out the many amenities offered by The Fred here.
