Athens, GA indie-rockers Futurebirds have teamed up with Carl Broemel of My Morning Jacket on a new collaborative EP, Bloomin’, out now via the band’s VL4L Records.
The four-track set was recorded in Nashville with an expanded version of the band including Broemel, who both played on and produced the EP. Described by Broemel as his “fearless musical explorer friends,” Futurebirds also served as the backing band to record one of Carl’s original tunes, “Blue Eyed Girl”.

As Futurerbirds’ Carter King added in a statement, “Very, very stoked for y’all to hear this EP – Making this thing was a total dream. In a storied Nashville room, nicknamed ‘the Friendly Forest,’ we recorded these tracks with a monster 8-piece version of the band, including Carl Broemel, one of our long-time heroes, playing and producing. The Friendly Forest was all blossoms. Carl even let us back him on one of his tunes for the EP. Hope y’all enjoy listening as much as we did making it. Keep it bloomin, y’all!”
In a later post, the band confirmed that the name of the EP was inspired by a particularly moving Outback Steakhouse Bloomin’ Onion the band enjoyed after finishing the sessions.
