New Orleans funk group Galactic announced today that they are extending their Winter tour across the Midwest and the West Coast. The band previously announced a trio of shows in Japan in December, a New Years Eve performance at Tipitina’s Uptown in New Orleans, as well as a half-dozen shows in Florida right after their appearance on Jam Cruise 11.
The tour begins on Valentine’s Day at The Pageant in St. Louis, Missouri with Latyrx featuring Lyrics Born & Lateef the Truthspeaker. Latyrx will be joining Galactic on nine of their Winter tour dates. The band’s tour snakes through Denver, where they play two nights at The Ogden Theatre, Seattle, where they play the Showbox,, two nights at The Fillmore in San Francisco, before closing their tour out at the Yost Theater in Santa Ana, California.
Boombox will support the band at their February 15 date at Liberty Hall in Lawrence, Kansas, while the Monophonics will open the show on February 16 at The Ogden Theatre.
In other recently announced news, drummer Stanton Moore, bassist Bill Dickens, and keyboardist CR Gruver will round out the rhythm of “The Meters Experience Presents: Icons of Funk.” In addition to the three members of Galactic, Meters guitarist Leo Nocentelli, Talking Heads and P-Funk keyboardist Bernie Worrell and James Brown and P-Funk trombonist Fred Wesley will be performing three shows in Japan. On January 29, the supergroup will be performing at Osaka’s Billboard Live, and on January 30 and 31, the group will travel to Tokyo’s Billboard Live.
