“One Million Views”, the latest single from South African live electronic duo Goldfish, has fans involuntarily dancing in place and music critics scratching their heads. With electronic, rock, polka, instrumental and vocal elements the track has induced a world wide panic amongst music lovers to define the genre of the song and Goldfish themselves. Both a band and a DJ duo, Goldfish’s use of classical instruments combined with thumping basslines and fast paced kicks makes it impossible to place a generic genre label on their music.
The track developed one morning in the studio off an “uplifting piano chord progression that Dom spontaneously played” and Goldfish members Dominic Peters and David Poole had the song written by the end of the day. However don’t let the lack of time spent producing the track fool you, “One Million Views” is instantly ear catching with touching relatable lyrics and an uplifting happy house melody and will make you question everything you thought you knew about house music.
With the release of their newest album Three Second Memory and increasing popularity of “One Million Views”, Goldfish has been having an excellent 2013. Fresh off their US tour with sold out stops in Boston and New York and a grand finale at Ultra Music Festival in Miami streamed live to nearly 35 thousand people, Goldfish has been infecting the music scene at a rapid pace. Picked to be the residents for David Guetta‘s F*ck Me I’m Famous Party at Pacha in Ibiza, cosigned by Pete Tong, and remixed by greats such as Fedde Le Grand, Live for Live Music was thrilled to be able to book a show with the duo immediately after their crowd rocking appearance at Ultra this past March. Sponsored by Live for Live Music, Goldfish played a 21 and over show for only $15 at DROM in New York City on March 25th.
At the front of the new musical movement emerging from South Africa, Goldfish represents dance musics past, present and future with their one of a kind sound. A word to the wise, see them now if you have the chance because tickets to Goldfish shows will surely not be $15 for much longer.
