Goose made its debut at the Ameris Bank Amphitheatre in Alpharetta, GA, on Friday, the same 12,000-capacity outdoor shed where Phish staged a two-night run earlier this month. Goose’s one-off show comes amid the band’s ongoing summer/fall tour that sees the ever-rising indie-groove band making its debut at outdoor sheds frequented by jam band standard bearers Phish and Dead & Company.

Following an opening set from Atlanta indie rock band Penelope Road, Goose took the stage with resurgent Kate Bush ’80s anthem “Running Up That Hill”. Goose added the song to its repertoire last year with Stranger Things-themed Halloween show in St. Petersburg, FL. Despite the band only playing the song six times in the past 11 months (per ElGoose.net), the cover has dotted some of its biggest shows to date, including its headlining debut at Madison Square Garden in June and a headlining slot at Merriweather Post Pavilion for the return of the All Good festival.

Goose — “Running Up That Hill” (Kate Bush) — 9/26/25

Aside from the cover that opened the show and the Fat Freddy’s Drop song that started the second set, Goose rode the originals that brought the now-quartet to yet another 10,000+ capacity amphitheater. Staples “Flodown” and “Yeti” dotted the first set, along with the more recent “The Whales” and “Animal”, plus 2025 additions “Your Direction” and “Madalena”. In the first set, “Animal” and “Yeti” emerged as the improvisational highlights and provided a yin-yang of styles. “Animal” opened up into lofty jamming led by guitarist Rick Mitarotonda, while “Yeti” took on a ferociously frenetic pace to bring the frame over the finish line.

The combined half-hour of “Animal” and “Yeti” was an appetizer for the second set, with the opening Fat Freddy’s “Fish in the Sea” running for a blissful 15 minutes, only to be outdone by the following 18-minute “Big Modern!”. The latter song has become a reliable jam vehicle in the 26 performances since its debut last September, and Friday was no different, as it allowed the band to stretch out and drummer Cotter Ellis to gradually throttle tension, until Goose seamlessly transitioned to “Loose Ends” for a jovial payoff. Ultimately, though, Goose saved the best for last by finishing the second frame with a 21-minute “Madhuvan” before closing the evening with its trademark, “Hot Tea”.
