Goose performed a surprise set Tuesday night at Dead & Company‘s Playing In The Sand destination festival in Cancun, Mexico.
The rising-jam quartet greeted the weary travelers arriving at the resort two days before the music began by commandeering the main stage that Dead & Company will occupy come Thursday night. Maybe Goose was just too excited to wait until Friday when they play their first of two late-night sets. Maybe they wanted to give all the early arrivals an extra-warm welcome. Or maybe they just wanted to see how it felt on the big stage…
Whatever they felt, Goose got right down to business with their surprise set by kicking off with The Wood Brothers‘ “Atlas”. After that, they ran through some originals. The Peter Anspach-penned Great Blue/Goose crossover “Doc Brown” came before “Butter Rum”—a recently released single by the indie-groove quartet. The set continued from there with “Jive II”. Unfortunately, the band was forced to cut the set short after “So Ready”, as heavy winds and rain hit the beach.
Regardless of how long they were able to play, Goose still made an indelible impression on those fans who were around to see their surprise set two days before the music was supposed to start at Playing In The Sand.
Dead & Company will hit the stage Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday. Their performances will be live-streamed via nugs.tv.
