On Sunday, Goose premiered pro-shot footage of the band’s performance of “Time to Flee” featuring Dave Grippo. The live cut, featuring the Giant Country Horns alto saxophonist, comes from Goose’s Friday show at the Higher Ground Drive-In Experience in Essex Junction, VT.

This past weekend saw Goose perform two shows, one Friday at Higher Ground and the other at Drive-In Live in Swanzey, NH. Next, the ever-rising quintet is off to Legend Valley in Thornville, OH for a drive-in show October 15th, followed by dates in North Carolina (10/17), and Maryland (10/19).

This show-opening run through “Time to Flee” saw Goose welcome Grippo to the stage, a post he would hold down for practically the entire show. In fact, Dave “The Truth” Grippo only missed three of the 11 songs played that whole night. The frequent Phish collaborator throughout the 90s, who appeared with the band at two Halloween shows (1995 and 1996), added a new dimension to the band’s ever-expanding sound and was immediately welcomed by curious fans.

In this 23-minute live cut, it’s clear that Grippo’s presence jived well with Goose when they brought him up around the 14-minute mark. Grippo’s sparse horn offerings drop right into the ambient, spaced-out jam that Goose had embarked on following a solid ten-minutes of more intense improvisation. It’s not all low-key however, as near the end things heat up again toward a crescendo and Grippo fully immerses himself into the musical fold.
