If you’re looking for a better Warren Haynes-led Halloween run, dream on.

Gov’t Mule will pay tribute to Aerosmith for its first Mule-O-Ween Halloween run in three years. The eminent blues-jam band will start the run on Halloween night at Washington, D.C.’s Warner Theatre before the train keeps rolling to Philadelphia’s The Met on Saturday, November 1st.

On social media, Gov’t Mule promised “two nights filled with Sweet Emotion and plenty of deep cuts from one of rock & roll’s most iconic catalogs — reimagined, stretched out, and Mule-ified in ways only this band can deliver.” This will mark Mule’s first costumed Halloween celebration since 2022, when the band celebrated the soundtrack from the 1984 rock mockumentary, This is Spïnal Tap. Previous years have seen Mule don musical costumes of the Allman Brothers Band‘s At Fillmore East (2021), Black Sabbath‘s Paranoid (2018), Led Zeppelin‘s Houses of the Holy (2007) for a show later released as Holy Haunted House, and many more.

Particularly entertaining is this clip from the band’s 2009 Rolling Stones Halloween show, where drummer Matt Abts comes out from behind the kit to do his best Mick Jagger on “Shattered”. Unfortunately, Abts will miss out on this year’s Halloween show and the coincidentally named Back in the Saddle Tour as he stays home to “attend to some lingering injuries from years behind the kit.” Warren Haynes Band drummer Terence Higgins will tour in his place. Get well soon, Matt!

Mule’s Back in the Saddle Tour will celebrate the band’s 30th anniversary with stops in 29 cities throughout the East Coast and Midwest. Mule’s first major outing since February 2024 starts with a five-show, co-headlining run alongside Tedeschi Trucks Band, which began Wednesday night in Toronto. Given that Grammy-winning 12-piece TTB is co-led by Haynes’ former Allman Brothers Band bandmate Derek Trucks, there’s sure to be an onstage collaboration or two.
