Gov’t Mule has announced a four-night NYE run, with shows on December 30th and 31st at The Beacon Theatre in NYC, before jumping over to Philly for two shows on January 2nd and 3rd at the Tower Theater. The band will be joined by Myles Kennedy on the 31st.
While no theme has been specifically announced, the image used to announce the concert screams AC/DC. Kennedy would surely be able to reach some of the high-register vocals, a trademark of AC/DC’s sound (thanks to frontmen Bon Scott and Brian Johnson). For reference, here’s the album cover for AC/DC’s infamous Back In Black (1980):

The band will also be joined by Cabinet w/ Ron Holloway on January 2nd, and by Bill Evans & Soulgrass on January 3rd.
Mule guitarist Warren Haynes recently gave an interview addressing the final Allman Brothers run, also at the Beacon, as well as a handful of Mule archival releases due out in the near future. Today’s Mule announcement addresses FOUR of those releases.
The first of these is a Rolling Stones tribute set, titled Stoned Side of the Mule, Vol. 1, which will be released on Record Store Day’s Black Friday (November 28th). The next is a special Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Mule release, which will be released on December 9th. The remaining releases, Dub Side of the Moon (a reggae set with Toots Hibbert) and Sco-Mule (a long-awaited instrumental collaboration with John Scofield from 1999), will see the light of day in early 2015.
VIP tickets for the Beacon shows go on-sale next Tuesday, October 7th at 12 PM ET, with regular tickets on sale next Friday, October 10th at 12 PM ET. Meanwhile, tickets for the Philly shows are on-sale the following week, with the general on-sale scheduled for Friday, October 17th at 12PM.
