Grace Potter picked up a “Little Hitchhiker” along her Mother Road tour, welcoming Brittney Spencer to the stage in Atlanta on Friday. The show at the Tabernacle also saw the fiery songstress call up local blues guitarist Eddie 9V for a sit-in.
Potter is traveling the country in support of her latest album, Mother Road, with the setlist leaning heavily on the tracklist. From the opening “Lady Vagabond”, Potter and her backing band peppered in new cuts like “Ready Set Go” and “Good Time” alongside older favorites from her days with the Nocturnals including “Medicine” and “Ah Mary”.
Midway through the show, Potter brought out fellow empowered singer-songwriter Brittney Howard to share vocals on Mother Road‘s “Little Hitchhiker”. The acoustic number allowed both commanding singers to display their softer sides as they locked together in sync, Howard no doubt scoring points for donning a Grace Potter t-shirt. The two previously collaborated earlier this year at a pre-Grammy salute to Lucinda Williams where they performed “I Lost It“.
Further on down the road of Friday’s show, Potter got some local support from Eddie 9V. The vintage Atlanta bluesman was on Potter’s tour as a special guest during the recent Southeastern run, and in his hometown he joined Grace for “Paris (Ooh La La)”. After finishing the set with “Stars”, all roads led back to the Mother Road as Potter closed out the show with an encore of the title track.
