The Grateful Dead’s Blues for Allah has made a remarkable return to the Billboard charts, driven by a special 50th anniversary reissue that dropped earlier this month. The deluxe edition, which includes a remastered version of the album along with a sound check, rehearsal, and live concert recordings, caused a massive sales surge—over 12,000 copies sold in just one week, a 401,000% increase compared to the previous week. This helped the album debut in the top 10 of multiple Billboard charts, including at number 4 on the Vinyl Albums chart and number 8 on the Top Album Sales chart.
The reissue also saw Blues for Allah reenter the Billboard 200 at number 81, marking its 14th week on the chart since its original release in 1975. The album’s commercial success continues to add to the band’s long history of chart-topping records, with Blues for Allah also placing in the rock and alternative rankings. The album’s 50th anniversary was further celebrated this week with the release of Blues for Allah: The Angel’s Share. The collection features 15 previously unreleased session recordings from the Blues for Allah era. It includes instrumental jams, alternate versions, outtakes, and unexpected moments that were not available for streaming until now. The collection was previously circulated in bootleg form under the title Jazz For Allah.
