Grateful Shred will headline this year’s annual Rex Foundation benefit concert at The Fillmore in San Francisco on December 6th, 2025. The fundraiser for the Grateful Dead‘s charitable arm will feature two sets from the tribute act, a silent auction of Dead memorabilia, and a pre-show reception.
Before the concert begins, VIP ticketholders are invited to a reception with gourmet food and wine from local NorCal vineyards Silver Oak, Twomey, and Winery Sixteen 600, plus a selection of area microbrews. At The Fillmore, fans can also bid on unique art, rare Grateful Dead memorabilia, and more in a silent auction benefitting the Rex Foundation. Then, Grateful Shred will take the historic Fillmore stage for a two-set performance celebrating the music of the Grateful Dead.
Featuring Circles Around The Sun’s Adam MacDougall (keys), Dan Horne (bass, vocals), and John Lee Shannon (guitar), plus guitarist/vocalist Austin McCutchen, drummers Alex Koford and Austin Beede, and vocalist Mikaeala Davis, Grateful Shred uses its rich vocal harmonies and dense instrumentation to deliver an authentic Grateful Dead experience. From starting out playing parking lots, Grateful Shred broke through with its viral 2017 performance, “Busted At The Bowl“, which has over 600,000 views on YouTube. Since then, the supergroup has embarked on numerous nationwide tours and in June released its debut studio album, Might As Well.

The Grateful Dead founded the Rex Foundation in 1983, naming it after the band’s late roadie-turned-road manager, Rex Jackson, who tragically died in a car accident in 1976. In his honor, this 501(c)(3) non-profit has distributed over ten million dollars to more than 1,400 grantees over the years. Throughout its existence, the Rex Foundation has used its resources to support small non-profits that benefit the environment, arts, Native American issues, and education.
