Organizers at The Greek Theatre in Los Angeles, CA have canceled the entire season’s worth of performances for the first time in 90 years as the COVID-19 pandemic continues its hold on the live events industry heading into the summer months and beyond.
Announced on Tuesday, The Greek Theatre’s cancellation of its entire 2020 season aligns with State, County, and City mass gathering guidelines for COVID-19 prevention. The announcement comes just weeks after the nearby Hollywood Bowl canceled its own 2020 season for the first time in 98 years.
A statement shared by The City of Los Angeles’ Recreation and Parks Executive Officer AP Diaz reads,
Although we had hoped to celebrate our 90th Anniversary Season of providing live entertainment for the citizens of Los Angeles we feel it is the right, responsible and safe thing for fans, artists, staff and our Griffith Park community to put a pause on live, large crowd events until 2021.
Fans should note that while the 2020 season will not take place as planned, not all of the scheduled concerts have been outright canceled, as some have been postponed and rescheduled with new confirmed dates.
Events including Jason Bonham’s Led Zeppelin Evening (5/28), Primus (7/18), Goo Goo Dolls (9/5), and Alicia Keys (9/8-9) have been pushed back to a later date still to be determined. Events including Barenaked Ladies (6/12), Joe Bonamassa (8/1), and Maren Morris (10/17) have been confirmed with new dates for the 2021 season, while planned shows from Norah Jones (5/22) and Smokey Robinson (8/16) have been canceled entirely.
