Greensky Bluegrass will head home to celebrate Halloween with a two-night run in Kalamazoo, MI. For the shows at the 8,203-capacity Wings Event Center, Greensky will call up newgrass pioneer Sam Bush, frequent keyboard collaborator Holly Bowling, and singer-songwriter Lindsay Lou.
In addition to celebrating Halloween (with a theme yet to be announced), this run will mark exactly 25 years since Greensky Bluegrass’ first-ever concert, also performed in Kalamazoo. That first show saw the band perform as a trio of mandolinist Paul Hoffman, guitarist Dave Bruzza, and banjoist Michael Bont, a lineup that has since expanded to include dobroist Anders Beck and bassist Mike Devol. Greensky will further bolster its lineup with special guests Sam Bush and Lindsay Lou on Halloween night and Holly Bowling and Lindsay Lou on November 1st.
As if Halloween and a 25th anniversary weren’t enough, the run will also coincide with the release of Greensky’s new album, XXV. The 13-track release reimagines longtime GSBG favorites with an impressive list of collaborators who have worked with and inspired the band over the past quarter-century, including Billy Strings, Nathaniel Rateliff, Trey Anastasio Band’s Jennifer Hartswick and Natalie Cressman, The String Cheese Incident’s Jason Hann, I’m with Her’s Aoife O’Donovan, plus Bush, Bowling, and Lou.
“We’ve reinvented the sounds of some of our (dare I say) ‘hits’ because after a quarter century of Greensky Bluegrass, with plenty of new music on the horizon, we believe it’s worth celebrating what the five of us have created together,” Beck said of the album, “and we want you to have a damn good time listening to it.”
