Following their surprise free concert livestream on WednesdayGreenksy Bluegrass has announced the “Leap Year Sessions,” a series of concert streams taking place every Friday night throughout the months of August and September.

Much like the free stream earlier this week, the Greensky Bluegrass “Leap Year Sessions” will be filmed and produced in 4K by 201 Productions (most widely known for their extensive work capturing LivePhish) and delivered via HYFI, a tech-savvy new platform delivering content in stunning 4K HDR with remarkable high definition audio.

As the band notes in their announcement on Instagram, “As the uncertain future of live music in its traditional format remains in limbo due to the COVID-19 epidemic, we’ve gone to great lengths to safely gather and record these very special performances with full production.”

The series, named for the band’s If Sorrows Swim track, “Leap Year”, also serves as an appropriately tongue-in-cheek reference to the chaotic Leap Year in which we find ourselves. Never before have the lyrics rang so true: “How can one more day make a year so long?”

As dobro player Anders Beck added along with the announcement, “After months of being apart from each other, the feeling of playing music with my band of brothers is nothing short of pure joy. The real icing on the cake is that we get to pump these shows into your living rooms in super high definition. We can’t wait to be with you again!”

Added mandolinist Paul Hoffman, “It’s alive. In a venue. With lights and speakers. It’s been over one hundred days since we played music together. Longer than ever. It feels so great to play again. We wish you all could be here, but for now, we’ll come to you. Tune in. Friday night is back.”

Brenton Henry, President of HYFI said, “We set out to build HYFI not only to connect artists with their fans, but also to allow artists to reconnect with each other. We saw that loud and clear on Wednesday. Delivering these high-quality experiences lets us tell fans this is the minimum to expect from us, so we can charge a reasonable fee for access and allow us to support these artists and their crews in a meaningful way.”

Individual shows are available for $14.99, or you can grab a subscription to all eight performances for a discounted bundled price of $99.99. Additionally, a limited edition merchandise line to accompany
the series is now available for pre-order.
