Guns N’ Roses rolled into Hollywood, FL on Saturday to close out their 2021 North American tour with two shows at Hard Rock Live Arena. On the first of two nights at the arena, Guns N’ Roses treated fans to a special sit in by Wolfgang Van Halen, son of the late Eddie Van Halen, who passed away last year.
While Wolfgang has been touring with GN’R throughout the summer under his moniker Mammoth WVH, this marked the first time he sat in with the rock n’ roll legends.
After a 24-song set that included hits like “Mr. Brownstone”, “Sweet Child o’ Mine”, and “Welcome to the Jungle”, as well as covers of The Stooges‘ “I Wanna Be Your Dog”, Velvet Revolver‘s “Slither”, and Bob Dylan‘s “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door”, GN’R came back out for a four-song encore. Following “Coma”, “Don’t Cry”, and a cover of The Who‘s “The Seeker”, Wolfgang Van Halen joined Guns N’ Roses for “Paradise City”—and it’s hard to tell if Axl Rose or WVH was more excited.
“Wolfgang Van Halen,” Rose said as WVH joined the band on stage. “Do you know how cool it is to say that? That’s f***ing cool. You don’t understand. We’re talking legacy.”
While on stage, WVH jammed along to the GN’R hit, while singing backup vocals alongside bassist Duff McKagan. In true GN’R fashion, they kept the energy high, Slash’s solo’s ringing through the PA with all the gusto. The guitarist even joined Wolfgang and McKagan on backing vocals throughout the song.
