Following reports of the festival’s uncertain future, organizers for High Sierra Music Festival have confirmed the event will go on as planned. The beloved music festival will return to the Plumas County Fairgrounds in Quincy, CA for its 33rd annual edition from July 3rd to 6th, 2025.
The Plumas Sun released a startling report on Wednesday that festival producer Dave Margulies was considering canceling High Sierra 2025 due to low ticket sales. Margulies told The Sun, “It would just destroy me if we had to cancel,” though the outlet noted that to continue would be “financially devastating to the organization.”

Like many festivals, High Sierra has struggled post-COVID. According to Margulies, each iteration since 2019 has lost money, with ticket sales continuing to trend downwards. This year, High Sierra scaled back the lineup and scope of the festival in order to reflect the shrinking ticket sales, but even those adjustments haven’t been able to make up for the financial losses. As of Wednesday, ticket sales were down 40% from last year.
A burst of sales in the past few weeks has brought the total to around 4,000, which is far from turning a profit but at least enough to ensure it won’t be canceled. As of Wednesday’s story, Margulies said they still need to sell around 2,000 four-day passes (about $750,000 worth of tickets) in order to break even.
Following an outpouring of support from fans, artists, and the local community (and hopefully some additional ticket sales), the High Sierra team posted on Friday that the festival will move forward.
“High Sierra is more than a weekend – it’s a ritual. A home. A gathering that’s held strong for over three decades, thanks to everyone involved,” organizers wrote on social media. “Our team is all in. And we can’t wait to welcome you back this July 4th weekend – to the music, the mountains, and the magic.”
This year’s festival will host ALO, Andy Frasco & The U.N., Daniel Donato’s Cosmic Country, Dogs In A Pile, Grace Bowers & The Hodge Podge, Karina Rykman, LaMP, Molly Tuttle, Steve Poltz, a rare performance by Marco Benevento and The Barr Brothers’ Surprise Me Mr. Davis, and many more. Tickets for High Sierra Music Festival 2025 are on sale here.
“Haven’t committed yet? Now’s the time,” organizers concluded. “High Sierra needs you. And you need this. This doesn’t end with a shortfall. It ends when you stop believing.”
