Hosts The String Cheese Incident shared a promotional video briefly detailing the long road to making Hog Farm Hideaway a reality. The festival was set to make its debut (as Hog Farm Hangout) in summer 2020 but was derailed by the pandemic. After an ultimately unsuccessful attempt to move the event to summer 2021, organizers are ready to finally mount Hog Farm Hideaway in June.
Also of note, drummer Michael Travis opens the video by asking the rest of the band, “do you guys like dubstep,” a possible tongue-in-cheek reference to last year’s dissolution of his improvisational duo EOTO with percussionist Jason Hann. The String Cheese Incident has dedicated the festival to late Madison House partner Jesse Aratow, who died suddenly on October 29th, 2021.
Black Oak Ranch is home to The Hog Farm, one of the oldest, continuously running communes in the United States. Founded by peace activist and clown Wavy Gravy, The Hog Farm has a long history of producing and participating in iconic music festivals and events in various capacities, most notably at the original Woodstock Music & Art Fair in 1969. In more recent years, The Hog Farm co-produced Electric on the Eel and The Pignic and hosted Earthdance and The Kate Wolf Festival. Black Oak Ranch offers an intimate festival site in a majestic setting of oak woodlands, meadows, and year-round streams.
