For the past 15 years, Hootie & the Blowfish fans have gathered in Charleston, SC every August for the band’s annual Homegrown concerts. The two-day affairs raise money for the Hootie & The Blowfish Foundation, a nonprofit that distributes funds to local educational charities and other community organizations. In recent years, these shows have been on the only chance for the band’s fans to see them perform live.

Things will be a bit different in 2018, as the band has announced a separate reunion show at Atlanta’s SunTrust Park, the new digs of the MLB’s Atlanta Braves, on July 21st. Considering America’s current wave of ’90s nostalgia—reboots of classic shows like Full House, The X-Files, and Roseanne are deemed hits before they even air—one could be forgiven for thinking the group behind “Only Wanna Be With You” would be headlining a stadium. Alas, this is not the case. Instead of holding down the top billing, Hootie & The Blowfish will open for bro-country superstar Jason Aldean, whose hits include random-country-song-title-generator efforts like “Big Green Tractor,” “Dirt Road Anthem”, and “Any Ol’ Barstool”.

The upcoming show will be the largest stop on Aldean’s High Noon Neon Tour, which is slated to feature supporting sets from Luke Combs and Lauren Alaina. While Combs and Alaina are set to perform at SunTrust Park on the 21st as well, the Atlanta stop will be the only show of the tour to feature Hootie & The Blowfish. Tickets for the show will go on sale Friday, March 23rd.

Hootie & The Blowfish and Jason Aldean may sound like an odd pairing, but the fusion of 1990s sentimentality and 2010s country pop isn’t as strange as it seems. After all, Hootie & The Blowfish frontman Darius Rucker has been churning out modern country hits for the last decade, including the appropriately titled #1 single “Come Back Song”. Back in 2009, Rucker even picked up a “New Artist Award” from the Country Music Association—a full 15 years after the release of Hootie & The Blowfish’s multi-platinum 1994 album Cracked Rear View.

Anyway, Hootie & The Blowfish marked the 21st anniversary of their TV debut with a brief reunion gig on The Late Show with David Letterman in 2015. You can check it out the video of them performing “Hold My Hand” below. As of now, Hootie & The Blowfish have not yet announced their 2018 Homegrown concert.
