Rock band Incubus played at KROQ’s Almost Acoustic Christmas last weekend, marking their first full-length live performance in roughly a year. Why the delay? It seems the group has been focusing their creative energy on some new studio projects, and are finally ready to reveal some details.

Incubus has signed with Island Records, a division of Universal Music Group, and, according to Mike Einziger, they’re “hoping to put out the first one in February or March, then the summer.” Einziger spoke to Billboard.com, where he discussed the projects at length.

“Most of the music we’ve written is high energy, [but] we’ve written our slowest song, but also our heaviest song.” The heavy song is called “Make Out Party. There’s also a song called “Dance Like You’re Dumb,” which Einziger refers to as “our version of a loud aggressive rock song. It’s definitely not what someone would expect from us.”

Interestingly, the band had no intention of recording a new album when their contract with Epic Records ended in 2012. Instead, they’ve been working at their own leisure, and the new EPs in 2015 will hopefully reflect the band’s stress-free approach to creating an album.
