Things may be changing in this country, but not quickly enough, as can be witnessed by the following video. Recently, Artimis, a DJ for U93 FM in South Bend, Indiana, had to deal with a mid-West hick homophobe, who calls himself “Craig….but that’s all you need to know” (a-dirk-a-dir), who has called in several times complaining about the station playing Macklemore & Ryan Lewis‘ “Same Love.”
Craig says that “‘Same Love’ is the song for homos….and Jesus hates gays.” He also goes on to say that
“I ain’t gonna be listening to your station anymore; promotin’ your homosexuals and gay tendencies….I am a Christian, and a God-fearing man, and I know that those gays have no place in Americuh.”
He tells Artimis that he hasn’t even gotten through half the song, as he turned it off after his son tried to have him listen to the track. Artimis says that, “You’re son is obviously trying to get you out of the lifestyle that you live, of hating people,” to which Craig replies, “He doesn’t know no better….he’s not old enough to understand.”
Artimis attempts to explain that God loves all, to which Craig repudiates that point with his obvious mastery of The Good Book (sarcasm detector needed), and the DJ even goes on to say that America is the land of the free and this bigot needs to step out of the past. Craig “needs to be free of gays”, which is a logical response (for a moron).
The scary thing is that this isn’t just one person that has the inability to have a logical and rational discussion about a topic such as homosexuality (as is clear by his constant interruptions, not allowing Artimis to finish a sentence). There are many people out there who refuse to acknowledge differing viewpoints and lifestyles, and cannot find a place in their hearts to peacefully co-exist. They spew their hate and supposed “knowledge” of what God loves and wants, when they clearly have no clue what they are talking about. Anybody who claims to know anything about God, or whatever higher power you believe in, and what that power wants, has absolutely no clue. Your best bet is to just live a peaceful life, do no harm to people, and be as good a person as possible. And if you feel the need to say some hateful things, just keep your mouth shut; no one wants to hear it anyway. Though it gives us the opportunity to show the rest of the world how much of a fool you are. It’s funny, but scary at the same time.
