Finally, Jack White released his highly-anticipated new album, Boarding House Reach, today–marking his third solo album and his first formal music project since 2014’s Lazaretto. After remaining musically silent for a number of years, the thirteen-track album sees White expanding his musical palate with perhaps his most ambitious work thus far, a collection of songs that are simultaneously timeless and modern.

According to the press release, Boarding House Reach was “written and conceived while holed up in a spartan apartment with no outside distractions” in which, “White replicated the identical environment and used the same gear as when he was a 15-year-old (a quarter-inch four-track tape recorder, a simple mixer, and the most basic of instrumentation) to pen sketches of the album’s songs.”

To commemorate the release, White has unveiled the official music video for the album’s latest single, “Over and Over and Over.” The video was directed by the acclaimed filmmaking duo, Us (a.k.a. Christopher Barrett and Luke Taylor).

In Boarding House Reach, White traverses between crunching rock ‘n’ roll, electro and hard funk, proto-punk, hip-hop, gospel blues, and even country—all remapped and born anew to fit his matchless vision and sense of restless experimentation. Featuring a cast of familiar musicians—drummer Louis Cato (Beyoncé/Q-Tip/John Legend), keyboardist Neal Evans (Soulive/Talib Kweli/John Scofield), bassist Charlotte Kemp Muhl (The Ghost Of A Saber Tooth Tiger), percussionist Bobby Allende (David Byrne), and backing vocalists Ann and Regina McCrary of the gospel trio The McCrary Sisters—White made a point to record with all new musicians, all in new places, to challenge his relationship with the strange.

For his touring band, White has chosen Carla Azar (Autolux, Depeche Mode, Doyle Bramhall II) on drums, Quincy McCrary (Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Pitbull) and Neal Evans (Lettuce/Soulive) on keys, and Dominic Davis on bass guitar. Head to Jack White’s website for a full list of upcoming tour dates.
