In an interview with Dan Rather, guitarist Jack White discusses the fact that he’s never smoked marijuana. The segment was filmed for The Big Interview with Dan Rather, but was one of many that did not make the final edit of the show. You can watch the clip below:

Rather seems surprised that White has abstained from the drug, considering its use in White’s generation, and by musicians in general. White counters by explaining that he would not want to connect with drug dealers in Detroit, and that smoking would “cloud what [he’s] doing.” He even discusses an encounter, where a friend argued that the most popular Beatles records “weren’t really them,” since the band was on drugs when they wrote and recorded that music.

While we’ll never know if Jack White is telling the truth, he certainly seems sincere. As long as his music is rocking, it really doesn’t matter what he does or does not smoke. We just know he won’t be working for Waka Flocka Flame anytime soon.
