English music phenom Jacob Collier has garnered awards, acclaim, and reverence across the globe for creating “big” sounds, his densely layered harmonies and maximalist aesthetic often serving as his guiding light. On rare occasions, however, Collier has shown that his simplest, most delicate works can be his most powerful. His recent acoustic performance of “Witness Me” from the roof on London, U.K.’s O2 Arena is one such occasion.
“At 8am on a sun-bursting Winter’s morning, Jacob climbed atop The O2 in London and performed this acoustic rendition of ‘Witness Me’ to a waking London skyline,” reads the description of the video,” shared on YouTube this week. “JC will be playing at the O2 on December 9th for his biggest UK show to date! Come along!!!!”
The warm timbre of Colliers crooning and the complex yet soothing tone of his fingerstyle accompaniment seem to harmonize with the morning stillness of the city, the sun glinting off the camera lens to accentuate the calm. Watch the gorgeous video of Jacob Collier performing “Witness Me” on the roof of The O2 arena below. If you like it, check out my favorite past Collier-acoustic-on-a-roof-in-sunlight video here.
