On the heels of their successful James Brown Birthday Bash on May 3 in Augusta, GA–Brown’s hometown–event organizers Friends With Benefits Productions have partnered with Brightsound Entertainment to bring the band to Charleston, SC’s Charleston Music Hall for one very soulful evening.

Legendary NOLA funk bassist and The Meters founding member George Porter Jr. will join thirteen members of The James Brown Band including Fred Wesley of the JBs. Another Crescent City staple, 2016 Grammy Winner Ivan Neville (Dumpstaphunk), will lend his keyboard chops. Brown’s front-man duties will be shared by Tower of Power vocalist Brent Carter and Elise Testone (who plays the Godfather of Soul role with the James Brown Dance Party). Multi-instrumentalist Chris Rob (Craig Robinson and the Nasty Delicious) and loval talents Quiana Parler and Mike Quinn round out the show’s all-star billing.

$2 of the ticket price will go to benefit the James Brown Academy of Musik Pupils (JAMP), a nonprofit organization run by Brown’s daughter Deanna Brown Thomas and James Brown Band lead guitarist and music director Keith Jenkins. JAMP works to fulfill the wishes of the Godfather of Soul by furthering music education in Augusta’s youth through the music of James Brown.

Immediately following the show, Mike Quinn Superfunk will perform at The Commodore at 504 Meeting St. for the official afterparty and James Brown Band Meet & Greet sponsored by YotMe. Expect some amazing sit-ins in an intimate setting. Admission to the afterparty is free, and exclusive to lucky winners selected through the YotMe App.
