Jason Hann is bringing an all-star group of musicians to join his NYC edition of the Rhythmatronix this October! Featuring bassist Oteil Burbridge (Dead & Company, Allman Brothers Band), virtuoso guitarist Fareed Haque (Sting, Joe Zawinul, Garaj Mahal), keyboardist Todd Stoops (RAQ, Electric Beethoven), and Afrocuban drummer Raul Pineda (Chucho Valdez, Sintesis), the String Cheese Incident percussionist is ready to showcase this unique project at Brooklyn Comes Alive.
When we spoke to Hann about the new project, he excitedly described it as “global fusion music with a collection of badass musicians playing international grooves.”
“We’re trying to introduce audiences to different grooves that they’re not used to,” he went on to explain. “It’s not funk, per se, but gets the same juices flowing. So far it’s gone over really well in terms of the level of musicianship and experimentation with international flavors, with influences from Colombia, Chile, North Africa, and Cuba.”
A similar lineup was featured back in March on the Lebrewski Cruise, when the at-sea Rhythmatronix delighted onlookers to a grooving, jazz inspired, improvisational-laced set. You can watch footage from that performance below (courtesy of Joseph Noel):
Set for October 22, 2016, the second annual Brooklyn Comes Alive will span three of Brooklyn’s most popular venues — Brooklyn Bowl, The Hall at MP, and Music Hall of Williamsburg — all within a 10 minute walking radius.
