Jason Isbell and Amanda Shires appeared on the CBS This Morning Saturday Sessions this weekend for a three-song performance. The married couple treated the viewing audience to songs off Reunions, Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit’s most recent album, which they released earlier this year.

First up was the lead track on Reunions, “What’ve I Done to Help”. As was the case with all songs performed on Saturday, Isbell played the acoustic guitar and offered up lead vocals while Shires accompanied him with the fiddle and harmonies. The titular refrain, “what’ve I done to help,” was repeated many times throughout the song and led to an instrumental section, allowing Shires to take a fiddle solo.

Up next was “Only Children”, the third track off the album. A bit slower than “What’ve I Done to Help”, Isbell and Shires showed off some excellent harmonies here, before the final track and the last song on the Reunions album, “Letting Go”. Matching the pace of “Only Children”, “Letting Go” describes the nature of parenthood and watching one’s kids grow up. The stripped-down Saturday Sessions rendition maintained the same emotion heard on the album while arriving as a bit more raw and minimalist.
