The ever-expansive entrepreneur, Jay-Z, has recently started his own sports management firm, Roca Nation Sports, which according to TMZ.com, has already hit some speed bumps. The firm also manages Robinson Cano of the NY Yankees, Victor Cruz of the New York Giants, and female basketball player Skylar Diggins.
Young H.O.V.A. has recently been placed under investigation by the NFL for violating league rules with respect to his participation in the draft of NY Jet’s 2013 QB selection, Geno Smith. More specifically, “league rules mandate that only NFLPA-certified agents may be involved in the recruitment of clients.”, and Jay-Z is not one of these certified agents. TMZ.com also reports that Geno Smith’s agent, John Thornton, stated he was “in meetings” with Smith and Jay-Z, however later rescinded said statement.
Jay-Z is not the only one constantly under public scrutiny (see: His & Beyonce’s Cuba Trip), the NY Jets have been known to attract their fair share of criticism, especially when it concerns their QB position. Mark Sanchez and Tim Tebow set the stage last year for the media-bullying of the NY Jets; it seems to only have continued with rookie Smith. As for Jay-Z, consequences and/or punishment from the NFL have yet to be determined.
