In 1999, guitarist Jeff Mattson was part of an esteemed run of Phil Lesh & Friends performances, joining a talented lineup that included Rob Barraco, John Molo, Bobby Strickland and Steve Kimock. While the other musicians would become regulars at Phil & Friends shows, Mattson has spent the subsequent 17 years playing with Dark Star Orchestra and The Zen Tricksters.

That all changed last night, as Mattson was on hand to help lead a great show at Lesh’s venue Terrapin Crossroads last night. Playing a free show in the backyard, Mattson and Lesh were joined by Rob Eaton, Rob Barraco, Barry Sless and John Molo for a two-hour, one-set performance. The show was originally supposed to feature Stu Allen, but he was unable to attend, and Mattson stepped up strongly.

The DSO guitarist helped the band let loose on a “Jack Straw” opener, before treating fans to a number of classics like “Peggy-O,” “Cumberland Blues” and more. Check out this fan-shot (albeit, sideways) video of “Help On The Way > Slipknot! > Franklin’s Tower,” below.

Ihis lineup will be returning to Terrapin tonight as well, so don’t miss out! They’ll be playing a “Dylan & The Dead” tribute as well, which is quite fitting considering Dylan’s Nobel Prize award!

Check out Deadheadland’s full setlist from last night, below.
