My Morning Jacket is currently taking a break in 2018, but frontman Jim James is clearly staying busy with his own agenda. Following the release of Tribute To 2 in December of 2017–in which he paid tribute to The Beach Boys, Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, and more–today, Jim James released a brand-new solo album full of original tunes, Uniform Distortion, via ATO Records.
Uniform Distortion–which got its name “because [Jim James] feels like there is this blanket distortion on society/media and the way we gather our ‘news’ and important information”–contains 11 tracks penned by Jim James and features Floating Action bassist Seth Kauffman and drummer Dave Givan, along with LA trio Dear Lemon Trees‘ Kathleen Grace, Jamie Drake, and Leslie Stevens on backing vocals.
Ahead of his new album’s release, earlier in June, James announced a unique solo acoustic concert tour in the fall. The tour will begin November 2nd at Los Angeles, CA’s Cathedral Sanctuary before visiting historic theatres and performing arts centers across the United States. The tour will culminate with a homecoming show at Louisville, KY’s Louisville Palace on November 21st.
The newly added tour dates will see the MMJ frontman—accompanied by longtime touring drummer David Givan, who appears on Uniform Distortion—perform a career-encompassing repertoire, including songs from his brand-new album. Special guest Alynda Segarra from Hurray for the Riff Raff will serve as opening support for all the upcoming fall dates.
