Joe Marcinek will gather an extensive lineup of musical compatriots for his Dead Funk Summit at HVAC Pub in Chicago, IL later this month. The shows will coincide with Dead & Company‘s two-night run at Wrigley Field on September 17th and 18th [click for tickets to the Friday and Saturday aftershows].
Headed by celebrated ax-slinger Marcinek, Friday’s lineup features Robert Walter, Jason Hann (The String Cheese Incident), and Freekbass while Saturday hosts Robert Randolph, John Primer, and Fareed Haque. Appearing both nights will be Steve Molitz (Particle), Calvin Rodgers, Sharay Reed, Justin Lee Schultz, Brock Butler (Perpetual Groove), Ola Timothy, Rick King, Ron Haynes, and more.
“If this lineup seems like overkill it is,” Marcinek told Live For Live Music. “With most of us unable to work much over the past year I wanted to help as many musicians as I could. The players represent a wide range of my musical influences and friends I’ve made along the way plus some of the best Chicago has to offer. We will rotate musicians in and out over the two nights which will lead to some breathtaking collaborations that have never happened before. Also, I’m very excited to introduce Justin-Lee Schultz to a bunch of music lovers who may have never heard of him.”
While most of the artists on the Dead Funk Summit lineup are well established by this point, the afterparties present a breakout opportunity for Justin-Lee Schultz. The 14-year-old virtuoso continues to make waves in the live music scene and issued his first full-length release last year.
