Joe Russo’s Almost Dead wrapped a weekend run of concerts by riding out of Washington, D.C. to “Terrapin Station”. During the band’s Saturday closer at The Anthem, the high-velocity Grateful Dead tribute act delivered its first electric reading of the full “Terrapin Station” suite since August 27th, 2022.
“Terrapin Station” wasn’t the only joyful return of the weekend, as JRAD resumed posting detailed Box Score setlists to its Facebook page. The evening’s Box Score identified and cataloged a bevy of teases of songs by Prince, Yes, Coldplay, and even JRAD’s own Marco Benevento. Box Score steward/band manager Peter Costello also noted that the “Terrapin Station” suite last appeared at Joe Russo’s Almost Dead’s acoustic show in Atlantic City on August 11th, 2023.
Beyond the box score, JRAD delivered a thrilling tribute to the Grateful Dead in Washington, D.C. An ethereal opening jam found its way to Jerry Garcia Band singalong “Catfish John” followed by “Music Never Stopped”—a notion that would prove true in the second set. A standalone “Let it Grow” then found its way to Blues for Allah rarity “King Solomon’s Marbles” before “Sugaree” closed the first frame.
Back for the final set of the weekend, Joe Russo, Tom Hamilton, Scott Metzger, Dave Dreiwitz, and Benevento got in the holiday spirit with an opening jam that teased “Linus & Lucy” from A Charlie Brown Christmas. After leaving a rollicking “Cassidy” unfinished, the band waded through a stormy “Lost Sailor” and “Saint of Circumstance” before setting out for “Terrapin Station”. The full suite ran for over 30 minutes and took the second set to a “Touch of Grey” closer. To bid everyone goodnight, JRAD returned to the stage for a locomotive “I Know You Rider”, complete with “Terrapin Station” teases from Tom Hamilton.
