Last weekend, Eminence Ensemble joined the masses flocking to the first weekend of Electric Forest, putting on a stellar show of their own during the weekend. Since their inception in 2008 at the University of Colorado – Boulder, Eminence Ensemble has been consistently making waves within their home state of Colorado. The sextet composed of Zac Flynn, Taylor Frederick, Nick Baum, Justin Neely, Johnny Bosbyshell, and Tanner Bardin consistently draws crowds with their genre-blending mix of prog-rock, soul, and fusion, along with a healthy dose of jam. Eminence Ensemble has also been increasingly well-received on the national scale, as evidenced by this past weekend when Joel Cummins of Umphrey’s Mcgee joined the band for a number in the forest.

Cummins and Eminence Ensemble teamed up for the group’s number, “Hacer Sex.” With a laid-back and easy-going groove that eventually ratchets up to a faster-paced, dance-focused number and whispy adornments from the guitar and keys throughout, the near eight-minute rendition of the song was a magical and tight showing from both the band and Cummins. Cummins sit-in perhaps foreshadows a long-standing future relationship between Eminence Ensemble and Umphrey’s McGee, with Eminence Ensemble returning to Colorado this weekend to play an after-show tonight at Cliff House Lodge in Morrison, Colorado, following the first night of Umphrey’s headlining three-night stand at the magical venue that is Red Rocks Amphitheatre. These after-parties are sure to sell out each night, as the cannabis-friendly venue, which includes an open bar with ticket purchase, is close to sold-out already. However, those who get boxed out from this special post-Umphrey’s jamboree need not fret. Eminence Ensemble just announced they’ll headline Denver’s Bluebird Theater on August 26th, with more details about support coming soon.
