The second night of “Fall Ball” brought some even more surprising moments from Joe Russo’s Almost Dead. After a first set scorcher, and another Terrapin Suite (Acoustic) set in the Bowl lanes, Joe Russo, Marco Benevento, Tom Hamilton, Dave Dreiwitz, and Scott Metzger welcomed another familiar Grateful Dead guitarist to the stage. It was John Mayer who stepped forward, joining for an entire second set, which included “The Other One”, “New Speedway Boogie”, “Touch of Grey”, and a Bob Dylan‘s “Quinn The Eskimo” encore.
The Dead & Co. guitarist was in New York last weekend to participate in Roots Picnic alongside D’Angelo, Pino Palladino and The Roots. It was one of those “Are you kidding me right now?” moments. Though, last night’s Brooklyn Bowl performance takes the Gold, especially in a room full of Deadheads. It was just the right amount of cool that jam band enthusiasts needed to justify standing in John’s corner.
Thanks to Joe Russo’s Almost Dead and Nugs.tv, we can enjoy the opening 15+ minutes of both sets from last night’s performance, along with pro-shot video from the Terrapin Suite acoustic set below:
