Today, John Mayer has released a new track, “New Light”. Produced by John Mayer and No ID, “New Light” is being released through Mayer’s own label, Snack Money, and was premiered today on Apple Music’s Beats 1 Radio as Zane Lowe’s ‘World Record’.
While the pop star-turned-Dead & Company vocalist/guitarist spends most of his free time in the studio, this new release will mark his first since 2017’s The Search For Everything. As teased on social media two days ago, “New Light” satisfies Mayer’s “summer bop” persona, matched with the cover photo above.
The Search For Everything came four years after 2013’s Paradise Valley. While the time gap was never suggestive of Mayer taking any sort of musical break, it became clear that the time was spent working on himself. Now, he’s full speed ahead.
“New Light” features the light-hearted, love-locked lyrics for which Mayer is affectionately known by his pop fans, as well as the gritty guitar riffs that keep blues aficionados coming back for more.
