After making the rounds on late-night television earlier in the week, John Mayer played the first of two solo acoustic shows at New York’s Madison Square Garden Tuesday night. In addition to playing a mix of covers ranging from Bruce Springsteen to Beyonce and original songs from throughout his extensive catalog, the Dead & Company guitarist welcomed Steve Miller and accompanied him on an acoustic rendition of “The Joker”.

The crowd sang along to the Steve Miller Band classic, even adding the slide guitar “wolf whistle” after the line, “Some people call me Maurice.” Mayer meanwhile provided harmonized background vocals, both musicians playing acoustic guitars.
