John Mayer was among the many artists who sat in with German DJ and producer Zedd during his performance at Coachella 2025’s first of two weekends.

The long list of special guests during the Zedd set at Coachella—also including Maren Morris, Elley Duhé, Julia Michaels, the olllam, and Bea Miller—largely reprised their recorded collaborations with the man of the hour, underscoring his broad reach into mainstream popular music. While Mayer was no exception—the two performed their 2024 collab “Automatic Yes” with Zedd on drums—he also surprised the crowd by leading the German artist through one of his own songs, “New Light”. The Sob Rock cut came as a notable departure from the club-oriented dance-pop he played throughout most of the set. Watch a clip of John Mayer and Zedd performing “New Light” at Coachella below.

As Mayer wrote of the experience in an Instagram post, “Incredible night at [Coachella] sitting in with [Zedd] for a couple of tunes. ‘What a night!’ Massive crowd, absolutely locked with his every musical move, incredible crew, just a really great experience from rehearsal to soundcheck to show. Thanks Zedd for the opportunity to feel that energy. I’m inspired.”

John Mayer will aim to channel some of the inspiration from his Coachella appearance with Zedd into his ongoing Sphere residency with Dead & Company when shows resume in Las Vegas this week. Find details and tickets for all of the upcoming Dead & Company Dead Forever Sphere dates here.

“Still at a complete loss of words…” Zedd wrote in a post of his own featuring a photo of him onstage with arms spread wide. “Coachella this was special. I can’t thank you all enough for not just showing up but showing up with so much joy, love and energy last night.” As he added in another post, “See you next weekend with some more surprises.”
