At the tail end of 2016, Jimmy Herring and John McLaughlin announced a joint tour dubbed “Meeting Of The Spirits”. Jimmy Herring—the exceptional guitarist of Widespread Panic, Aquarium Rescue Unit, Allman Brothers Band, Phil Lesh & Friends, The Dead, Jazz Is Dead and more—brought a new project, Jimmy Herring and The Invisible Whip on the road with him, while McLaughlin, the famed English guitarist and bandleader, performed music from his work with the Mahavishnu Orchestra with John McLaughlin and the 4th Dimension.
With the expansive tour getting multiple extensions due to demand, each night, both musicians and their respective ensembles began by performing sets of their own, then finished off the night by coming together for a collaborative and improvisational encore. Heralded as one of the finer tours to grace stages in 2017, fans can remember the Meeting Of The Spirits tour with a brand-new live album, which will be released on September 21st of this year.
Jimmy Herring and John McLaughlin’s Live in San Francisco is a new live record that captures the magic of the two heralded guitarists’ show on December 8th, 2017 at San Francisco’s Warfield Theatre. As John McLaughlin noted in a statement, “This recording of the final set at the Warfield Theatre brings to full circle the amazing advent of The Mahavishnu Orchestra in 1971, and its renaissance on this night in San Francisco.”
Added Herring, “Playing these timeless compositions with John and The Fourth Dimension was a life-changing experience!”
