Indie-piano-pop trio Jukebox the Ghost has released a brand new single called “The Great Unknown”. Last Friday, the group that originated at George Washington University posted a short fifteen-second audio clip of the catchy new song, leaving their dedicated fan base hanging and wanting more. Today the band granted the wishes of their fans, and posted a link on their Facebook to the full song on Spotify, expressing their excitement for the new song and their upcoming album also called The Great Unknown.

The band’s sound is a unique blend of piano player Ben Thornewill’s Ben Folds-esque piano playing (who they toured with in 2009), Jesse Kristin’s dance-driven drumbeats, and melodic guitar riffs from Tommy Siegel (who said in an interview that if he could trade places with anyone in another band it would be Trey Anastasio from Phish). The group, though still under many people’s radar, has opened for groups like the Barenaked Ladies and Guster, played sets at Bonnaroo and other major festivals, and appeared on the “Late Show with David Letterman” in 2010.

The Great Unknown will be the band’s fourth full album and holds great potential for a band who is gaining fans at an impressive rate, consistently selling out shows in New York, Washington D.C., Boston and more. Their fans love the group for their fun and high-energy live shows that often consist of impressively bold covers (i.e. Whitney Houston‘s “I Wanna Dance With Somebody“, The Beatles‘ “Golden Slumbers” and Queen‘s “Somebody to Love”. And yes, Thornewill hits every note).

The new single is a short (2:59) and sweet preview of what their fans will get when the full album is released. Thornewill’s tasteful piano playing compliments his strong and energetic vocal performance, paired with Siegel’s backup vocals singing “There’s something waiting for ya, in the great unknown”. Kristin keeps a steady pulse on the drums that makes it hard to not tap your foot and dance along.

“The Great Unknown” is a catchy, feel good song and a promising start to the band’s summer which includes a tour with A Great Big World, a show at Lincoln Hall in Chicago put on by The A.V. Club, and a slot at Common Ground Music Festival in Michigan.
