Julian Lennon, the oldest son of John Lennon and a Grammy-nominated musician in his own right, took to his Facebook page over the weekend to share news on the current state of his health.

Lennon, age 56, surprised fans in detailing a recent health scare where doctors discovered a malignant/cancerous mole on his head, which has since been removed, but not before shaking the musician up a bit. The lengthy post which somewhat details his scare, also acts as a passage of self-reflection and inspiration for his followers to take care of themselves.

“A few days ago, I went to visit My dermatologist, here in LA, when she noticed a little bump on my head, that was actually a Mole, that had been there, along with a Birthmark, for the last 57 years,” Lennon’s post reads. “She urged me to have a Biopsy 2 days ago, which I obliged… Only to learn, 24 hrs later, that it was Malignant/Cancerous, and that her recommendation was to get it removed immediately, which is what happened today.”

Lennon continued in confirming his doctor’s team was able to remove all parts of the mole that had been cancerous, and the tissue was sent to be further studied and analyzed. Julian’s mother and John’s first wife, Cynthia Lennon, died of cancer in 2005.

“I cannot tell you how I felt, from One moment of Joy, to the fear of feeling that I may be gone, at any given moment,” Lennon continued. “I’m still shaking inside… But My Faith is Strong.”

Lennon encouraged his fans and followers not to be shy about scheduling check-ups with a doctor twice per year and take advantage of every health check possible.

The post shared on Sunday came just a few days head of “World Cancer Day” on Tuesday.
