Kamasi Washington has announced the release of a new concert film, Kamasi Washington Live At The Apollo Theater, premiering this Thursday, February 6th exclusively on Amazon Prime Video. The film, directed by Michael Garber, chronicles the performer’s headlining show on February 23rd, 2019 at the world-famous Apollo Theater in New York’s Harlem neighborhood.
The film features Washington playing material from throughout his career, including tracks from The Epic, Harmony of Difference, and Heaven and Earth, alongside his band, The Next Step, featuring guests DJ Battlecat and singer Dwight Trible. Along with the concert footage, Live At The Apollo Theater also contains behind-the-scenes footage of Washington visiting local Harlem landmarks as he comes to grips with the reality of playing such an iconic venue. Washington said of the concert,
Playing at the Apollo Theater is one of the greatest honors that a musician can have. When I walked down 125th Street from my hotel in Harlem and saw my name on the marquee I almost couldn’t believe it. To be a part of that prestigious group of brilliant musical minds was truly humbling for me. To say that night was one of the most amazingly special nights of my life is a grave understatement. I’m so happy and thankful to be able to share this moment with people all over the world. I hope you all enjoy it as much as I did!

Additionally, Washington has shared a recording of the unheard song, “The Bombshell’s Waltz”. The song was originally recorded for Washington’s self-released 2007 album, The Proclamation, but was never distributed. The song is available now exclusively through Amazon Music.
