Even after 150,000+ people petitioned against him playing this weekend’s Glastonbury Festival, Kanye West showed up and put on what has been widely reviewed as one of the best performances of his career. Kanye played a 30-song set, which included an appearance from Bon Iver‘s Justin Vernon on “Lost in the World” and “Hold My Liquor”, and even paid tribute to Vernon’s group with a brief cover of “Woods”.
While some gave praise, however, others commented that it was more of a performance showcasing his “You are now watching the greatest living rock star on the planet” ego and ability to bring divisiveness to one of the most inclusive festivals on the planet.
One strange highlight of the performance was when West had his DJ play Queen‘s “Bohemian Rhapsody” with the MC ‘speak-singing’ parts of Freddie Mercury’s legendary vocal performance. While West clearly can’t sing, or necessarily hold a tune at all without auto-tune, he did create a rather successful crowd sing-along.

Another interesting moment was when Kanye got Kanye’d. During the beginning of “Black Skinhead”, British comedian Lee Nelson (dressed in a ‘Leezus’ t-shirt) ran out on stage with a microphone and just started dancing while Yeezus was performing. West was visibly not happy as he called security to the stage to apprehend Nelson and drag him off stage.
The comedian later tweeted, “I Kanye’d Kanye. That was for you @taylorswift13.” We wonder how it must have felt for Kanye to get a taste of his own medicine.
