It seems that his new solo album, Crosseyed Heart, has given Rolling Stones’ guitarist Keith Richards license to say just about whatever he wants about any other music he’s heard. After recently showing disdain for the classic Beatles album, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, Richards took shots at some other classic rockers and hip hop music as well in a new interview with the New York Daily News.

“Millions are in love with Metallica and Black Sabbath… I just thought they were great jokes,” he said, quite bluntly.

He then turned his sights on rap music. “Rap — so many words, so little said… What rap did that was impressive was to show there are so many tone-deaf people out there.” Richards continued, “All they need is a drum beat and somebody yelling over it and they’re happy. There’s an enormous market for people who can’t tell one note from another.”

Harsh words from the 73-year-old guitarist. Whatever Richards is doing seems to be working, because The Stones are still bringing it after so many years. Maybe he gets his power from hating on other music?
