Texas-native “Thai funk” trio Khruangbin rolled through Brooklyn, New York for a weekend run at Brooklyn Steel. On both Saturday and Sunday, pedal steel guitarist Will Van Horn joined the encore after providing opening support.

Known for their laid-back, instrumental brand of world music, Khruangbin has slowly built up its fanbase over the past five years. The group released its debut album, The Universe Smiles Upon You, in 2015 to much critical acclaim, while their latest effort, Con Todo El Mundo, was released earlier this year and was met with huge success.

Khruangbin Releases Groovy “Christmas Time Is Here” With Music Video [Watch]

Nearing the end of their North American fall tour, Khruangbin has kept close with their original catalog in the live setting. With little variation in their venue-to-venue setlists, fans have been treated to the band’s signature sounds and influences. Toward the end of each set, the trio would branch out and deliver an impressive hip-hop medley that included signature takes on Dr. Dre‘s “The Next Episode”, Ol’ Dirty Bastard‘s “Got Your Money”, A Tribe Called Quest‘s “Electric Relaxation” Sade‘s “The Sweetest Taboo”, “Toni”, Ice Cube‘s “It Was A Good Day”, Warren G‘s “Regulate”, Leon Haywood‘s “I Want’a Do Something Freaky”, Dr. Dre’s “Nuthin’ but a ‘G’ Thang”, Chris Isaak‘s “Wicked Game”, and Kool & The Gang‘s “Summer Madness”. The multi-song encore typically included “Christmas Time Is Here”, their cover of the Vince Guaraldi holiday classic.
