King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard treated a particularly appreciative audience to a particularly rocking and jam-packed show Tuesday night at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta.

Following an opening set from King Stingray, the Australian psycho-nauts set the tone early with a forceful “Superbug”, followed by a headbang-worthy pairing of “Converge” into “Witchcraft”. After environmentally conscious thrasher “Planet B”, Stu Mackenzie took to the mic and thanked the fully engaged crowd for “turning up.”

“I really can’t believe we get to play these cool places,” he said. “Thanks for turning up because we couldn’t do it without yas. We love it, and we love you a lot.”

Later in the show, his appreciation was echoed by Ambrose Kenny-Smith, who acknowledged Atlanta’s special place in music history by thanking the crowd for OutKast.

“Hot Wax” kept things rocking, ultimately giving way to the slower and more gentle “Her and I (Slow Jam 2)”, which previewed the trajectory of the set with teases of “Crumbling Castle”, “Ice V”, and “Slow Jam 1”, along with quotes from “Iron Lung”.

“Crumbling Castle” ramped up the energy once again ahead of the upbeat Lucas Skinner-penned tune “The Fourth Colour”, which was followed by the interstellar title track from the band’s latest album, “Flight b741”, and a psychedelic “Iron Lung”.

Then, after the groovy “Sad Pilot” led into a thrashing “Rats In The Sky”, one of the highlights of the night arrived with a standout version of “Work This Time” featuring a powerful guitar solo by Joey Walker.

“The Garden Goblin” was dedicated to the band’s cameraman, Allen, and his partner, who requested the song. KGLW then brought out the synth table for “Intrasport”. Typically followed by “Set”, which appeared on the setlist but was ultimately skipped due to the venue’s strict 11 p.m. curfew, the song flowed directly into a set-closing “Gilgamesh”. As the curfew approached, crew members pulled the synth table offstage, but Stu, Joey and Lucas were undeterred, continuing to play as they were carted off and ending the night on a rebellious note at 11:01 p.m.
