King Gizzard & The Wizard Lizard have revealed details for the band’s upcoming orchestral album, Phantom Island. Though the genre-attention-deficit disorder Aussie act did not share a release date, they did share that album pre-orders and the next single will go live on Tuesday, April 15th. They also announced that they will host a Reddit “Ask Me Anything” session.
The 27th King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard studio album will feature ten tracks including the previously-released title track, which arrived last October as the hyperactive group’s only release of the past six months. Phantom Island boasts original artwork by Jason Galea, depicting an island coliseum-meets-Tower of Babel with an orchestra of alligators, fish, and mice playing to herds of cows and horses as the stadium chokes in the smoke from a crashed archaic house-plane (very similar to the one from Flight b741‘s cover). So, just your ordinary King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard album cover.
“HERE WE GO AGAIN!!!!!!” Singer-guitarist Stu Mackenzie shared. “A lot of love and time and energy and patience and growth went into this one. Can’t wait to grow wings and fly with all of you”
According to October’s initial Phantom Island announcement, the band recorded 20 songs for what became the ten-track Flight b741 (released August 9th, 2024). “Phantom Island” was originally recorded for Flight b741, so it would stand to reason that the remaining nine tracks cut from Flight will appear on Phantom Island with the full orchestral treatment. Stu added Wednesday that Phantom Island has been in the works for two years.
To accompany the new album, King Gizzard will tour the U.S. this summer with various 28-piece orchestras. The band’s 2025 summer tour will include only 11 concerts, with seven of those shows featuring a different local orchestra, while KGLW’s second night at New York’s Forest Hills Stadium (8/2) and their inaugural three-day Field of Vision camping festival will mark the band’s only rock n’ roll shows of the summer. The band will also perform three nights at Bonnaroo for the first-ever “Roo residency,” and tour Europe in the fall for a mix of orchestral dates and rave sets.
Check out the title track to the new King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard orchestral album, Phantom Island. Album pre-orders will go live at 8 a.m. ET on Tuesday, April 15th through p(doom) records. That same day, King Gizzard will host an AMA on the band’s subreddit. Find tickets and a list of KGLW tour dates here.
