King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard wrapped yet another milestone year on Thursday with their tour closer in Miami. The concert at Factory Town marked the band’s 64th concert of 2024, which included seven three-hour marathon concerts and the release of one new album (with the announcement of another for next year).

Already looking ahead to 2025, King Gizzard opened Thursday’s show with “Field of Vision”, which shares its name with the band’s inaugural festival-style event in Colorado next summer. This led into a fittingly elongated “Hypertension” which—combined with “Field of Vision”—took up the first 20 minutes of the show and set the band off on its way.

The 16-song show jumped around from Gizzard’s latest album Flight b741 with “Le Risque” to 2013 psychedelic epic “Float Along – Fill Your Lungs” to the microtonal “Billabong Valley” to the nightly synth excursion for “Gilgamesh” into “Extinction”, and many points in between. To sprint across the finish line for their final show of 2024, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard looked to their metal forays Infest the Rats Nest and PetroDragonic Apocalypse; or, Dawn of Eternal Night: An Annihilation of Planet Earth and the Beginning of Merciless Damnation to end the year on a headbanging note. “Venusian 2” kicked off the thrash exorcism before drummer Michael Cavanagh laid waste to “Converge” and the band took the audience straight to “Hell”. Finally, the Lizards fittingly closed their year with a pair of reptilian tributes in “Dragon” and lastly “Gila Monster”.
