Kitchen Dwellers give the full galaxy grass treatment to the Grateful Dead‘s “Mississippi Half-Step Uptown Toodeloo” with the help of Lindsay Lou and Mike Robinson of Railroad Earth in a new pro-shot video from the band’s set at Rhythms on the Rio Music Festival on August 5th.
The Dwellers have been known to cover a wide range of classic songs, from Van Halen to Usher and everything in between, and “Mississippi Half-Step” has been in their live repertoire for years. Being a string band, their arrangements offer new and unique reinterpretations rather than mere replications, as this version of the tune from the Dead’s 1973 album Wake of the Flood clearly illustrates.
The band welcomed Lindsay Lou at Rhythms on the Rio after the two recently completed a tour together. Lou and Robinson joined Torrin Daniels, Shawn Swain, Max Davies, and Joe Funk earlier in the set for another river song, “Down By The River”, before returning to lend a hand during the Grateful Dead cover, which served as the encore. KD also tapped Pappy Biondo and JP Biondo of Cabinet to sit in on a sequence of “Big Mon” into “White Freightliner Blues”.
