The musical landscape of Los Angeles has further broadened with the unveiling of The Torch, a new venue from the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. The outdoor, multi-purpose venue will host events in the shadow of the venue’s famous Olympic Cauldron.

The Torch will create an intimate, open-air space capable of holding between 3,500 and 10,000 people for an array of events. This new venture from the L.A. Coliseum comes at a time when the lingering threat of COVID-19—especially in California—limits the possibilities for the large-scale concerts and sporting events that the Olympic stadium would normally host.

“We are thrilled to introduce The Torch to the L.A. venue lexicon and eagerly anticipate offering a diverse selection of concerts and events,” said Teresa Guy, director of Booking and Partnerships for the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. “Adding a stunning outdoor performance space to this iconic location provides Angelenos with an amazing venue to enjoy musical performances and special events throughout the year.”

The Torch is located on the east-end arches of Peristyle Plaza and under the flicker of the Olympic Cauldron. The space offers an urban oasis of tree-lined lawns, vintage ticket booths repurposed as full-service bars, and the “Olympic Gateway” sculpture commissioned for the 1984 Games. This move arrives as history prepares to come full circle, with the location for the 1932 and 1984 Olympics preparing to host the Games once again in 2028.

“I’m proud to introduce The Torch as a new open-air destination for Los Angeles concert- and event-goers,” said Joe Furin, the stadium’s General Manager. “We are thrilled to continue to innovate our legendary landmark, inviting the next generation to create lasting memories with us for many years to come.”

Though The Torch is an outdoor venue, all attendees are urged to wear face masks as of this time. Guests are currently required to wear face masks when indoors or in spaces where social distancing is difficult. Face coverings should be worn at all times by those who are not vaccinated.

The Torch will host an array of events from concerts, to sports matches, to conventions, and more. The space made its grand opening earlier this month on August 13th with the Uproar Hip-Hop Festival and continued on with Resurgence, New Japan Pro-Wrestling on the 14th, and the MLS All-Star Concert featuring Kaytranda and Big Boi.
